The City of Fort Smith Utility Department previously suspended late fees and disconnects for non-payment while working on internal processes with the new billing system. Late fees were reinstated in October 2019, and disconnects will resume beginning February 2020. Affected customers have been sent delinquent notices each month since September 2019 to allow time to bring past-due accounts current, avoiding penalties or shut-off.
A temporary payment plan option is now available to help residential customers bring delinquent accounts up to date. This program applies only to customers with at least 2 unpaid bills that were due prior to January 25th, 2020. Bills due after January 25th, 2020 are not eligible for the payment plan. All new and future charges must be paid on time, including late fees.
