Fats, Oils, and Grease (FOG) are a major cause of sanitary sewer overflows in the City of Fort Smith. As we move into the holiday season preparing more food than usual, the risk of clogged pipes and sewer related overflows increases. Remember to put fats, oils, and grease in the trash – NEVER down the drain!
All customers will receive a communication with their utility bill as part of the Utility Department’s FOG Program. This communication is designed to provide education regarding the consequences of putting fats, oils, and grease down the drain. FOG causes approximately 80% of all dry weather sanitary sewer overflows in Fort Smith.
